Regardless of where the blame goes, the Giants blew up with the Graham Gano injury
The Giants became the first team in NFL history Lose a rule game Despite scoring three touchdowns and allowing none. And they only have themselves to blame.
It's unclear who is specifically to blame for the Giants' lack of a healthy kicker. But they didn't. For the organization, it is a failure.
Gano landed on the injury report Saturday with a groin problem. He suffered a hamstring injury on the opening kick-off.
After the match, coach Brian Double said this They thought he was good. However they came to this conclusion, they were wrong. Obviously. Gano wasn't straight with them or the training staff misunderstood the situation or they should have told him not to run, he wasn't good enough to be healthy during the game.
To make matters worse they failed to substitute Gano. They could also promote kicker Jude McAttamney from the practice squad. Hell, with only 52 men on the current roster, they could have made him an official member of the team.
Some teams have punters who can kick and/or kickers who can punt. Some have players in other positions who can punt or kick. With the Giants apparently not in that category, there was reason to have one more kicker in the pipeline given Song status.
As long field goals become more automatic, teams need to have players who can kick them. Especially when playing a tough game in the division where points will likely be a premium.
Again, it is not clear who is specifically responsible for this. There may be many. There may be a few. If only the Giants did that in the early season Hard knocksMaybe we knew.
