Sean Combs is accused of sexually abusing 10- and 17-year-old boys
Sean “Diddy” Combs is accused in separate cases of sexually abusing two boys, one who was 10 and the other who was 17. The plaintiffs allege that the abuse occurred in 2005 and 2008, respectively
The civil lawsuits, filed Monday in New York State Supreme Court, join more than two dozen others and accuse the music mogul of sexual misconduct. The Supreme Court is a trial-level court in the state of New York.
Among the attorneys for the two plaintiffs, who both filed their claims anonymously, are Tony Buzbee and Andrew Van Arsdale, who said they represent more than 100 people who have filed claims against Combs. Buzby filed more than a dozen lawsuits against Combs.
“We will continue to file lawsuits naming Mr. Combs and others as defendants weekly as we continue to gather evidence and prepare filings,” Buzbee said in a statement after the most recent lawsuit was filed.
Both plaintiffs in the two lawsuits filed Monday live in California and are seeking a jury trial.
In response, Combs' attorneys accused Buzbee, a Texas personal injury lawyer who held a news conference this month in which he solicited new clients for publicity. Buzbee's press conference was held in front of a banner with a 1-800 number in large red print that he urged people to call if they wanted to make a claim.
“The lawyer behind this case is more interested in media attention than the truth, as is evident from his regular press appearances and 1-800 numbers,” they said in a statement. “As we've said before, Mr. Combs cannot respond to every new publicity stunt, even in response to facially ridiculous or demonstrably false claims. Mr. Coombs and his legal team have full confidence in the integrity and integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: Mr. Combs has never sexually harassed or trafficked anyone – male or female, adult or minor.”
Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation for engaging in prostitution. He was denied bail and is being held in a New York City jail. His trial is scheduled to begin in May. Federal prosecutors allege that he forced men and women to engage in sexual acts, and that he used blackmail and violence to silence victims. They also allege that Combs enlisted the help of his staff to assist him in his criminal conduct. The complaint named one victim but prosecutors said there were multiple.
The man who alleges Combs molested him when he was 10 and an aspiring actor and rapper, traveled from California to New York City with his parents in 2005 and met people in the music industry, according to the lawsuit. According to the complaint, her parents hired a consultant to help with her “burgeoning career” which arranged for her to audition for Combs, who allegedly wanted to meet the child alone before meeting her parents. He performed several rap songs for Combs, and Combs told him he could make him a star and asked him what he would do to become one, to which the child responded, he would “do anything,” the lawsuit alleges. Later, an associate of Combs gave the child a spiked soda and Combs forced her to perform oral sex on him, the lawsuit alleges.
According to the complaint, the child lost consciousness and when he woke up, his pants were off and he felt pain. Combs threatened to hurt the child's parents badly if she told anyone, the lawsuit states. She immediately told her parents, who, like the child, “feared about the potential consequences of reporting the abuse,” according to the complaint.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff suffers from and suffers from severe depression and anxiety and feelings of hopelessness and exhaustion, which she says she had to homeschool because of behavioral issues that affected her relationships. The lawsuit alleges that he was “deprived of a normal childhood” and was unable to interact with others and lead a normal life.
The other complaint alleges that in or around 2008, the plaintiff, who was 17, participated in a three-day audition for the MTV reality show “Making the Band,” which Combs created and used to put groups together. The teenager advanced to a stage in the process where contestants met with Combs and his bodyguard in private rooms, the lawsuit alleges. During one-on-one meetings with Combs, the lawsuit alleges, Combs ordered the 17-year-old to undress and groped and fondled her penis. The lawsuit alleges that Combs masturbated while he groped the contestant and told her that he had the power to “make or break” her career.
At a later meeting, the lawsuit alleges, Combs again ordered the contestant to undress to prove she could embody a “sex idol,” an alleged requirement for the band's image. During these alleged encounters, Combs forced the teenager to perform oral sex on her and sodomized her, and allegedly restated the claim that she could control the plaintiff's future in the music industry, according to the suit.
On the third day, the suit alleges, the teenager was forced to perform oral sex with Combs' bodyguard, identified in the suit only as “T,” during which Combs allegedly groped and fondled both the plaintiff and the bodyguard. Because the contestant expressed her discomfort and hesitation, Combs later removed her from the competition, claiming “she was unfaithful,” the lawsuit says. According to the filing, he did not return to the music industry for seven years.
In a previous interview with NBC News, Van Arsdale said most of the people who allege they were abused as minors say they met Combs under the guise of an audition or to help advance their careers.
Combs has settled just one of the civil suits filed against him in the past year. The lawsuit, filed by his ex-girlfriend Casey, whose real name is Cassandra Ventura and who signed to his label, was filed in November and alleges that Combs physically and sexually abused her for years. The two settled for what his lawyers described as an eight-figure settlement without Combs admitting any wrongdoing. His lawyers are challenging other cases.
