Man United sack Erik ten Haag; Ruud van Nistelrooy is interim
Erik ten Haag has been sacked as Manchester United manager following Sunday's 2-1 Premier League defeat against West Ham United, the club announced on Monday.
Jarrod Bowen scored a stoppage-time penalty to leave United 14th in the table with just three wins in the first nine games of the league campaign.
Ten Hag was in danger of losing his job last season after finishing eighth in the league, but an encouraging win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final earned him a contract extension until 2026. The FA Cup was the second trophy of the ten. Hag won the Carabao Cup in 2023 during his time at Old Trafford.
“We are grateful to Eric for all he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” United said in a statement.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, while a permanent head coach is appointed.”
