“I am absolutely devastated by the passing of my amazing friend, Liam,” Neil wrote in a lengthy Instagram statement. “It didn't feel real. Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was contagious. He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and safe.”

The “Slow Hands” singer continued to reminisce about her time singing in One Direction with Liam.

“All the laughs we've had over the years, sometimes about simple things, keep coming back to me through the sadness,” Neal added. “We got to live our biggest dreams together and we will cherish every moment forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn't happen often in life.”

Neil, who had Liam and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy He also detailed how it felt to see his friend for the last time, as a guest at his recent concert in Buenos Aires.

“I feel so lucky that I got to see him recently,” Neil wrote. “I sadly didn't know that after saying goodbye and hugging her, I would be gone forever. It's heartbreaking. My love and condolences to Geoff, Karen, Ruth, Nicola and of course her son Bear. Thank you. For everything, Pineo to you. Love you bro.”
