'The Brady Bunch' Reboot Spiked at CBS Due to Cindy Actress Susan Olsen's Documented Hate Speech

“The Brady Bunch” star Susan Olsen was among the OG actors included in the reboot of the beloved sitcom, though it failed to take off due to her controversial comments and hate speech.

The revival series, which was in early development at CBS Studios, followed the “Brady Bunch” siblings as they all grew up, and provided updates on where each was in life with their own families. Olsen's character Cindy (the youngest “Brady Branch” sibling) was on her way to being portrayed as a liberal podcaster, until Olsen's real-life views derailed the series, Olsen revealed on the #WalkAway campaign podcast.

A homophobic and inflammatory private message — which resulted in his firing from LA talk radio — was discovered by the studio, Olsen said, after the studio conducted a web search for his past controversial comments, which eventually turned into a 50-page document that Olsen said was his The nail in the coffin. “The overwhelming result was, 'No, we can't put him on a show,'” Olsen said.

“I had a phone with me [TV] Siblings and my agent,” Olsen said. “Everyone was saying, 'We're sorry, but they won't budge.' They just don't get you this.' I think, wow, I'm canceled. I played a role for over 50 years, I can't do it now because I'm too dangerous. I was like, 'Well, okay guys, good luck, I hope you can sell it.'

Although Olsen said the decision stemmed from her revelation that she voted for Donald Trump, a person familiar with the situation told TheWrap that the issue did not stem from her support for a particular political candidate, but rather from her controversial comments and hate speech. CBS Studios declined to comment.

Olsen stood by her comments during her podcast appearance, calling them “her greatest hits” and saying “if I put it out there, I meant it.”

Prior to the investigation into all of her past controversial comments, Olsen said that CBS Studios offered her a course after learning about the homophobic incident, which Olsen agreed to. “I thought, 'Hey, this will make the show green … it's the least I can do for my siblings because they're having problems with me,'” Olsen said.

The actress added that while she said she was interested in “consulting media experts” on the matter, she was never informed of any course, as the studio was too keen to go beyond her past comments.
