Nicki Jam Endorses Donald Trump; Trump mistakes him for a woman: 'She's hot!'
Nicki Jam has now joined a legion of reggaetonoros pledging their support for Donald Trump — even if the former president doesn't seem to know who he is. On Friday night, the Puerto Rican musician attended Trump's stage in Las Vegas to support him, but the former president misgendered him during his introduction.
“Do you know Nicky? she is hot Where's Nikki?” Trump asked, looking offstage to find her. Jam had just arrived on stage when Trump corrected her mistake: “Oh, look, I'm glad she came.”
The Puerto Rican singer joined Trump in a red “Make America Great Again” hat as he gave a brief speech about his support.
“It is an honor to meet you, Mr. President. People who come from where I come from, they don't meet the president. So I'm lucky,” Jam said. “We need you. We want you back, right? We want you to be president.”
On Saturday morning, as the clip of Trump's confusion went viral, Jam shared a meme on Instagram that the former president thought he was a woman: “Nikki Jam la potra la bichota,” he joked, using the slang female reggaeton singer Ivy Queen and Karol. G uses to describe themselves. (Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign also shared the clip on X, poking fun at the confusion.)
His post received support from numerous Latin musicians, including Justin Quills, Joel Y Randy's Randy, Sech and J Balvin, who commented “champion” on the post.
Some of Jam's fans have shared their displeasure with the reggaeton star since he voiced his support for DACA recipients in 2018 after Trump threatened to take executive action that protected people who came to the U.S. without papers as minors. “They are hard working people who bring a lot to the table for this country. They deserve so much,” he said in a video with Spotify at the time.
“I'm in the video below where I shared that / with @NickyJamPR that thousands of #DREAMers w/ #DACA were afraid Trump would take away our protections,” wrote Adrian Escaret of the National Immigration Law Center at X. “Fast forward to now it seems like Nicki Jam used me to promote her music + sold out our community. Thanks for nothing.”
Trump's endorsement of the “X” musician comes just days after Puerto Rican stars Anuel AA and Justin Quiles joined the former president in Pennsylvania, offering their support for the MAGA cause. Again, it was clear that Trump had no idea who they were.
“Do you know who they are? Come here quick, guys, come on, because I don't think these people know who you are,” Trump said on stage. But it's good for the Puerto Rican vote. Every Puerto Rican is going to vote for Trump right now. We'll take it.”
