Jane's Addiction apologizes, cancels gig after frontman Perry Farrell's on-stage fight with guitarist Dave Navarro

Jane's Addiction apologized to their fans for abruptly ending their show early Friday after an on-stage altercation between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro.

“We would like to sincerely apologize to our fans for the events that took place last night,” the band wrote in a statement on their Instagram story on Saturday night.

The rock group's statement comes 24 hours after their chaotic performance at Boston's Leader Bank Pavilion, where bandmates clashed amid mounting “tension and hostility”.

Farrell, 65, was in the middle of singing “Ocean Size” and became visibly agitated, yelling obscenities at the audience and bandmates.

He turned to Navarro and nudged his shoulder at the unsuspecting guitarist before the two rockers faced off.

It all ended with Pharrell getting in Navarro's face, throwing two elbow-like jabs in front of several crew members and bassist Eric Avery, running up and restraining the heated singer.

The stage lights were dimmed, but several punches were thrown as the hot-headed singer was whisked away from the crowd's view.

Because of the fight, the rock group announced that it had canceled its Sunday show in Bridgeport, Conn., and that fans would be refunded for their tickets.

Pharrell's wife, Etty Lou Farrell, shared details of what led to the rocker's heated outburst during the band's Beantown show.

He revealed that the tension between Pharrell and the rest of the band was growing because his voice was being drowned out by all their instruments.

“He just screamed to be heard,” Ettie Lau wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

“Perry's frustration grew as, night after night, he felt the stage volume was too loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” he added.

“Perry was suffering from tinnitus and sore throat every night. But when the front-row audience started complaining to Perry that the band was playing too loud and they couldn't hear him, Perry lost it.”

ET Lau claimed that after three other band members left the stage, Avery “walked up to Perry, up, in the dark, behind Dan, put Perry in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach.”

“Perry was a mad animal for the next half hour – he didn't calm down at all, but broke down and cried and cried,” she said.

“Eric, well he either didn't understand what degradation meant or took advantage of the situation to take a few cheap shots at Perry.”

Navarro has not yet spoken about the exchange in person.

Jane's Addiction performed for two shows at NYC's Pier 17 last week, including on September 10, where Pharrell told the audience he was having trouble with his voice, saying, “Something's wrong with my voice.”

The band is still scheduled to perform in Toronto, Canada on September 18
