Daniel Jones: I was disappointed and didn't like the pull for Drew Lock
The Giants came into Week Seven with one of the NFL's worst offenses, and the unit couldn't match its poor first six-week results against the Eagles.
A field goal just before halftime accounted for all of the team's points in a 28-3 loss, and they gained just 119 yards during the game. They gave up eight sacks, fumbled 11 times and generally failed to compete at any point on the afternoon.
Quarterback Daniel Jones wasn't on his last breath as head coach Brian Double pulled him from the game in favor of Drew Lock in the fourth quarter. Double said the team will stick with Jones as the starter and they were looking for a spark Sunday, but the move still rubbed Jones the wrong way.
“I was disappointed,” Jones said, via a transcript from the team. “I want to be there, I want to play with my teammates and try to score points. Yes, I was disappointed and yes, obviously didn't like it.”
It's understandable that Jones didn't like Double's move, but it would be just as understandable if Double decided to make a permanent change at quarterback. The Giants have played well offensively once through the first seven weeks and Jones is in his sixth NFL season, so it's hard to sell the idea that a breakthrough is just around the corner. After all, the Giants could be on the hook for $23 million in guaranteed money if the oft-injured Jones can't pass a physical this offseason, so it's not hard to find reasons to bench him.
