Cheryl Cole, mother of Liam Payne's son, urges people to show 'dignity' after singer's 'earth shattering' death

Liam Payne's son Bear's mother Cheryl Cole has spoken out following the singer's sudden death.

The “Fight For This Love” singer took to Instagram on Friday to remember the former One Direction member.

“As I try to navigate this world-shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I would like to kindly remind everyone that we lost a man,” he wrote along with a throwback black and white. captioned a photo of Penn in bed with their then-newborn baby.

He added, “Liam wasn't just a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son. A boy who is now devastated that he will never see his father again. We have to face reality.”

Cole begged for mercy and pleaded that his child be spared the many details of his father's tragic death.

“Before you comment or make videos, ask yourself if you want your own children or family to read them,” he urged. “Please let what little dignity Liam has left in the wake of his death finally rest in some peace.”

Cole and Payne dated for over two years before their split in 2018. The pair started a relationship shortly after her marriage to Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini ended in 2015.

They welcomed their son Bear in 2017.

At the time of their split — which they called a “mutually loving decision” in a social media statement — sources said they were still close friends.

“Cheryl and Liam have worked really hard on their relationship – they had problems earlier this year and managed to get through them,” an insider told The Sun. “But they are at different stages in their lives and, after much careful thought, have come to the conclusion that it is best for everyone if they go their separate ways.”

Paine died on Wednesday aged 31 after falling from the third floor of his hotel room in Argentina.

According to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office, he suffered multiple injuries that resulted in internal and external bleeding and a fractured skull.

Officials also said Payne was likely “semi- or fully unconscious,” as drugs and alcohol were found in his hotel room.

Investigators have since questioned two prostitutes who were in the star's room in the hours before her death, one of whom was reportedly seen arguing in the lobby over payment.

Payne was on holiday with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, but left the country two days before his fatal fall.

Shortly after his death, a source close to the singer told Page Six exclusively that Payne had been going through a rough patch in his life for some time.

“Liam had been cycling through destructive behavior for a long time,” the insider said.

“He was open about his struggles but sometimes tried to downplay them. His ghost was much worse than that.”
