Red carpet season is underway, and some of television's biggest names descended on L.A.'s Peacock Theater for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday.

Returning to its usual September slot (after the actors' and writers' strike pushed it to mid-January last year), the Emmys often hint that TV shows may clean up later at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. They also, often, predict the evening wear trends that will reign supreme in Hollywood in the coming months.

The evening's red carpet was a relatively subdued affair, with many attendees opting for dark floor-length gowns, classic silhouettes and column dresses. Still, the conventionally elegant black dress had plenty of fun touches, from the delicate gold details of Laverne Cox's vintage Alexander McQueen to the sparkling pavé neckline of Selena Gomez's Ralph Lauren halter gown.

Some of the best moments of the evening, however, came in an entirely lighter shade: pink. Meryl Streep's pantsuit and pussy bow blouse were bubblegum shades, and Hannah Einbinder's crepe jersey and tulle Louis Vuitton gown was dusty pink. Tamara Ralph and Giambattista Vallar, Iza Gonzalez and Aja Naomi King, respectively, also got in on the trend.

Elsewhere, attendees sported eye-catching accessories, including “The Bear” actor Ayo Edebiri, who wowed in a mosaic-sequined Bottega Veneta dress, and Quinta Brusson, whose strapless Georges Chakra mermaid dress looked almost liquid. Kristen Wiig (in Oscar de la Renta) and Gillian Anderson (in Emilia Wickstead) were on hand to impress in silver metallic – and Ella Purnell's Rabanne number, chainmail – gowns.

In the menswear category, many attendees ditched the traditional black tie for something more flashy. “Abbott Elementary” star Chris Perfetti rocked a theatrical ruffled shirt from Christian Siriano's spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection, and “Fallout” star Aaron Moten arrived in a red Kenzo suit with a Nehru collar. “The Traitors” actor Alan Cumming and fellow Scot Richard Gad, creator of “Baby Reindeer,” both wore kilts, the former's plaid cummerbund train doubling as a scarf from his cream Teddy Von Ranson jacket.

Even those opting for more conventional tailoring incorporated playful touches, from host Dan Levy's sculpted low neckline to the silky open shirt of Jonathan Bailey's Giorgio Armani suit.
