2024 MLB playoff bracket: Postseason picture, Mets, Braves, D-backs battle for final spots

Major League Baseball's 2024 regular season isn't over yet, and the postseason bracket hasn't been finalized yet. Atlanta Braves The Braves and New York Mets will play a doubleheader Monday afternoon that will determine the final two spots in the 2024 MLB playoffs. The Arizona Diamondbacks are still alive for a wild-card spot in the National League, but they must either beat the Mets or the Braves twice on Monday.

A win on Monday would make the Braves the NL's No. 5 seed. The D-Backs can clinch the No. 6 seed if either team sweeps the doubleheader at Truist Park. The Mets could be the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the NL bracket, depending on what happens Monday.

We do know the other 10 teams in the 12-team postseason bracket, however, and the entire American League field is set. The playoffs begin Tuesday when a best-of-three wild card series begins

In the AL, the Astros (No. 3 seed) will host the sixth-seeded Tigers in the Wild Card Series. The No. 4 Orioles will host the No. 5 Royals, who jumped the Tigers with a win over the Braves in the regular-season finale on Sunday. The Yankees clinched the No. 1 seed in the American League and home field through the ALCS. The Yanks and the second-seeded Guardians have a first-round bye and will begin play in the ALDS.

In the National League, we know the top four seeds: No. 1 Dodgers, No. 2 Phillies, No. 3 Brewers and No. 4 Padres. The Dodgers have had home-field advantage throughout the postseason as they have secured the best record in baseball. The Phillies have a first-round bye, while the Brewers and Padres will find out their wild card series opponents before that series begins Tuesday.

The wild card series are all hosted by higher seeds and will conclude by Thursday, October 3. The LDS round will begin on Saturday, October 5. The league championship series begins on Sunday, October 13. and the World Series will begin on Tuesday, October 22 or Friday, October 25. (You can click here to see the complete playoff schedule.)
