Atlanta's 2024 Michelin Guide is now official. Of the 57 restaurants recognized in this year's guide, Staplehouse and Spring earned one star, while Atlas and Lazy Betty retained their one star. Restaurants like Hoopsy and Superika were named the new bib gourmands.

Michelin has expanded the guide to feature tables and mains and masterpieces beyond metro Atlanta restaurants in 2024.

This year marks the city's second dining guide from the French tire company, which features coveted stars, bib gourmands and other highlights on the city's restaurants worldwide. Atlanta's inaugural guide debuted in 2023, focusing on restaurants in and around the city.

In addition to revealing restaurants earning stars and bib gourmands and being announced as recommended in the Atlanta Guide for 2024, awards for exceptional cocktails, outstanding sommeliers, outstanding service and Michelin young chefs were also presented.

James Beard Award-winning author and AJC Senior Editor Mike Jordan hosted the Oct. 28 event at the Georgia World Congress Center. “I always say, Atlanta wins on a night like this,” Jordan said of the 2024 Michelin Guide and its recognition of the city and its food scene.

Origins of the Michelin Guide

Michelin — yes, the French tire company — began publishing a series of guidebooks for motorists in the early 20th century that featured general maintenance of the newly invented automobile, including fuel, hotels, and places to eat on the road. Single-star ratings began in 1926, followed by two- and three-star ratings in 1936.

How Guide Ratings Work

Anonymous inspectors working for Michelin dine at the restaurant several times a year, providing their final recommendations for stars, bib gourmands and other specialties at a public event.

Starred restaurants must consistently meet the following five criteria during each inspector's visit: displaying quality products and ingredients; Similarity of taste; mastering cooking techniques; the chef's voice and personality reflected in the cuisine; and consistency of food and service.

One star: A restaurant with high quality cuisine and worth a stop

Two stars: A restaurant that specializes in cooking and visitors to the city should make dining here a priority.

Three Stars: A restaurant that showcases exceptional food and service, and people visiting a city should add it to their plans.

Bib Gourmand: A restaurant that serves high quality food at a reasonable price.

Green Star: A restaurant prioritizing sustainability and environmentally friendly practices.

Recommended: A restaurant has not achieved star or bib gourmand status but still deserves recognition in the guide.

US Cities and States with the Michelin Guide

Michelin features guides for New York City, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Florida, California and Colorado in the United States. In 2024, Michelin announced its Texas Guide to include restaurants in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth.

Restaurants in the Atlanta Guide join more than 17,000 other restaurants around the world recognized by Michelin.
